Turn Your Scrap Into Funding

10th Jul 2013

Altham RSPCA animal centre have been given an unexpected boost by local scrap metal dealer HML Recycling. Staff at the animal charity were delighted to hear that the nearby metal recycling company had chosen the charity to support as part of a new scheme.

The government have banned cash payments for scrap metal transactions under the value of £15. When customers bring their unwanted metal products to HML Recycling on Bolton Avenue in Huncoat, and the value is below £15 the customers are asked if they would like to donate the fee to a local charity.

So far, HML recycling have collected £120 for the RSPCA in one month alone. They are also supporting Derian House and East Lancashire Hospice.

Ken Harrison, the RSPCA East Lancashire Branch Manager said “this is an absolutely fantastic scheme, and we are really grateful to HML Recycling for selecting us as one of their chosen charities.” The local RSPCA is an independent charity that has to find £300,000 per year to keep going. “These kind of partnerships are really important to us and we are really grateful to HML Recycling,” added Mr Harrison.

The scheme was created by the yard staff of Robert Braysford, Brandon Rogan, Wayne Pickering and Perry Wells. The team are hoping that in its first year alone, the new scheme will generate £10,000 for local charities.

HML Recycling accept all forms of metal, from complete cars to gold. The only exceptions are fridges, freezers, gas bottles and televisions.

Ken Harrison said “We are really grateful to the staff at HML Recycling, and can’t praise their support highly enough.” The RSPCA animal centre looks after and rehomes hundreds of unwanted, abandoned, abused and neglected local cats, dogs, rabbits and ferrets every year.

Thank you very much HML Recycling!
