Accrington Shop NOW OPEN !

28th Oct 2013

The RSPCA Lancashire East Branch are celebrating after successfully opening their third charity shop in the region. Accrington is the home of the latest shop, which will help to raise the annual running costs of Altham RSPCA animal centre alongside its sister shops in Burnley and Clitheroe.

The new shop, situated on Broadway in Accrington town centre opened on Saturday the 26th of October after almost twelve months of planning and setting up. RSPCA Branch Manager Ken Harrison is delighted with the new shop, and said that the new shop will be a vital link in the annual fundraising chain. He explained, “We have wanted a presence in Accrington for a number of years, as it is the town closest to our animal centre which serves the whole East Lancashire area. We are all really pleased that we have finally managed to find the right property for our needs.”

Within minutes of opening, the shop was crammed with bargain hunters – and it wasn’t long until the money started going through the till. “Our animal centre costs over £300,000 a year to run,” explained Mr Harrison, “and charity shops really are a fantastic way of raising funds. Our other shops are very well established now and provide a large proportion of our annual budget. We are all very confident that Accringtons new RSPCA shop will also make a great contribution to our animal welfare objectives.”

Hesta Sandom, the shop manager was very pleased with the launch and is looking forward to building on such a positive start. “Now that we are open, we are really keen to spread the message about our shop, which sells good quality clothes, housewares, bric-a-brac, home entertainment and childrens items at very reasonable prices.”

The shop is also on the look out for volunteer helpers. Hesta continued “we need volunteers for all aspects of our work, from sorting the clothes, pricing books to helping on the till. Please pop into the shop for a chat if you can spare a few hours a week to help us raise the money we need for Altham animal centre.”

Branch Manager Ken Harrison said that the new shop came about thanks to an excellent team effort. “I’d really like to thank all the staff and volunteers who have worked so hard on the Accrington shop launch. We really do have a fantastic team of volunteers and staff who work really hard all year round for the charity, both at the animal centre and in our charity shops. Without their commitment and enthusiasm we couldn’t dream of launching ambitious initiatives such as this.”

The RSPCA are always on the look out for stock donations for all of their shops. They accept all clothes, shoes, toys, household items, ornaments and kitchen wares, books, CDs and DVDs. Free collection is available by phoning 01200 425176.

Altham animal centre is based on Enfield Road, close to Huncoat train station. The centre looks after and rehomes unwanted, abandoned and neglected animals from all across East Lancashire. They keep records of all the animals that are up for rehoming on their website.
